Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark women's soccer team had its fair share of chances in the second half of its Northwest Conference contest against Pacific Lutheran on Sunday afternoon. However the Pioneers were unable to overcome a first half goal by the Lutes, falling 1-0.
The Pioneers fall to 9-5-2 on the season and 7-4-1 in conference play, while the Lutes improve to 12-3-1 overall and 10-2 in the NWC.
Machaela Graddy put the Lutes on top in the 25th minute with a two quick moves that caught the Pioneers off guard.
Lewis & Clark's best chance to tie the contest came in the 73rd minute on a penalty kick. The free chance came after a Megan Ratfield corner kick that found its way to a crowed penalty box. Both teams scrambled to get a foot on the ball, with one of the Lutes getting a hold of Emily Thompson, taking the junior down in the box. Taylor Hudson stepped up to take the penalty kick and beat the keeper to the left but had the ball ping off the post.
The Pioneers had a few more chances down the stretch but were unable to penetrate the Lute backline.
The team returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 10 a.m. when they host Whitman for Homecoming.
