Box Score FOREST GROVE, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark women's soccer team continues to keep its eyes on the Northwest Conference regular season title, winning a crucial game against the Pacific Boxers on Sunday. The Pioneers defeated the Boxers 1-0 on a penalty kick.
The win moves the Pioneers 9-4-2 overall and 7-3-1 in the NWC. The Boxers fall to 5-8-1 on the season and 2-7-1 in conference.
The Pioneers lone goal came in the 44th minute after a Marissa Sandgren ran onto a pass from the left side, taking the ball to the center of the 18-yard box before being clipped by a Boxer defender. The foul drew a penalty kick for the Pioneers which was taken by Taylor Hudson. Hudson calmly stepped up to the ball and pushed it past the keeper into the right corner of the net.
Geena Fong was hardly challenged, coming up with just two saves in yet another complete game victory.
The game proved to be a chippy one with 27 combined fouls and four yellow cards. The two sides were even on shots, while the Boxers held a slim 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Pioneers return to action on Sunday, Oct. 26 at Griswold Stadium against Pacific Lutheran.
