Comeback Falls Short in Overtime Loss for Women's Soccer

Box Score

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark women's soccer team came back from a two goal deficit on Sunday afternoon in a Northwest Conference match against the Linfield Wildcats, but fell to the Wildcats in the second overtime period 3-2.

With the loss the Pioneers fall to 6-4-2 on the season and 4-3-1 in conference play. The Wildcats are now 8-3 overall and 5-3 in the NWC.

The Wildcats netted both of their regulation time goals within a three minute span, starting with a low cross from Dani Nurmi that McKena King volleyed into the far post. Emily Fellows made it 2-0 just minutes later on a goal of her own.

It took the Pioneers just seconds to cut the Wildcat lead in half. The play originated on a hard shot by junior Emily Thompson which was saved by the Wildcats starting goalkeeper. The ball rebounded away from Laurel Huth right to the feet of Marley Hauser who put it away.

Trailing 2-1 out of the half the Pioneers equalized in the 49th minute. Anna Thorndike was the one who tied the game on a shot from the top of the 18-yard box that pinged off the cross bar and over the goal line.

Thompson nearly sealed the win for the Pioneers in the 103rd minute with a shot that snuck just wide of goal.

Linfield would respond with the game winning goal just a minute later.

Lewis & Clark returns to the field on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. at Willamette.
