BOX SCORE

TACOMA, Wash. - Senior Katie Anderson knocked down a game-high 31 points for the Lewis & Clark women's basketball team as the Pioneers opened Northwest Conference action on Friday night with a 82-70 win at Puget Sound.

The win moves the Pioneers to 6-4 on the year and 1-0 in NWC action. The victory marks the third straight season the Pioneers have opened NWC play with a victory. The Loggers slip to 7-3 overall and 0-1 in conference.

The Pioneers were strong from three-point range shooting over 60% in both halves. Anderson led the charge finishing the night 6-of-9 from behind the arch. The senior guard was just as strong from the free-throw line, hitting all but one of her attempts, finishing the night 9-of-10.

Tayler Wang continued her double-digit scoring streak, ending the night with 16 points, while freshman Ayisat Afolabi concluded the game with 11 points. Kathlene Howe led the Pioneers with seven rebounds, Daron Dean collected five boards, and Wang, Afoldabi and Casey Zinn each pulled down four.

Amanda Forshay was a handful for the Pioneers in the first half, knocking down 20 points in the period. The Pioneers found a way to shut her down in the second half, only allowing the forward to score seven points. Forshay ended the night as the Loggers leading scorer with 27 points. Emily Sheldon was the only other Logger to end the night in double figures, scoring 17 points.

Lewis & Clark started the game on a roll, running up a solid 20-7 advantage with five and a half minutes gone, courtesy of back-to-back-to-back three pointers from Anderson. Forshay pulled the Loggers within four points of the Pioneers with 5:31 remaining, but it would be as close as they would get in the half. The Pioneers quickly reapplied the pressure, building up an 11 point lead heading into the halftime.

The Pios largest lead of the game came at the 12:47 mark when Kaitlin Mathewson hit her second consecutive three pointer, making it a 60-42 game. Puget Sound could do very little in response as Lewis & Clark ran away with the game.

Lewis & Clark returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 4 at Pacific Lutheran for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
