NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Emily Thompson's two goals and one assist helped Lewis & Clark beat Benedictine University 5-1 in the Sal Vaccaro Tournament at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium on Sept. 8. 

The win brings Lewis & Clark's record to 3-0-0 as Benedictine falls to 2-2-0.

The Pioneers started the scoring early with senior Natalie Levy recording her second goal of the season in the third minute.  Sophomore Emily Thompson extended the lead in the seventh minute with a goal of her own.  Only six minutes later Thompson assisted on a goal by sophomore transfer Marissa Sandgren.  Thompson then scored her second goal of the day in the 16^th minute to give Lewis & Clark a 4-0 lead.  Senior Sarah Breninger extended the lead to 5-0 in the 38^th minute with a goal assisted by freshman Rochelle Jordan. 

Lewis & Clark fired off 15 shots in the first half with 13 of them being on target.  Junior goalkeeper Geena Fong kept Benedictine scoreless for the first 45 minutes of play. 

Starting the second half Benedictine struck early in the 52^nd minute with a goal by Nikki Jhanji. The Pioneers and Eagles held each other scoreless for the rest of the half with Lewis & Clark ending the game with 23 shots, 16 on goal.  Benedictine finished with five shots, two on target.  

Lewis & Clark returns home to face Northwest Christian on Saturday, Sept 14^th at 6:30pm.
