PORTLAND, Ore. -Lewis & Clark senior guard Tayler Wang scored a game-high 23 points for the #17 Pioneer women's basketball team but it was not to push them past host Evergreen State falling 84-75.
Wang nailed all eight of her free throws, while finishing seven of 13 from field goal range. Katie Anderson ended her night with 20 points and freshman Ayisat Afolabi came off the bench to score 11 points for the Pioneers.
Afolabi and Wang both collected a team-high six rebounds, while Anderson and Kathlene Howe each grabbed four boards.
Kiemba Pearson scored a team-high 17 points off the bench for Evergreen State.
It took a while for the Pioneers to get going in the start of the game with Evergreen State cruising to a quick 5-0 lead. Casey Zinn earned the Pioneers their first lead of the game, making it 10-9, with back-to-back made free throws at the 15:35 mark.
Evergreen recaptured the lead and maintained control of it until Afolabi nailed a free throw, following soon after by an Anderson three pointer. The Pioneers then held control of the game until the Geoducks hit two free throws with 4:33 to go. The Evergreen lead would stand heading into the half, with the Geoducks holding a slim two point advantage.
The Pioneers were unable to take the lead away from the Geoducks until 16 minutes into the second half with an Anderson three that put L&C ahead 71-68. The lead was short lived with Evergreen quickly recapturing the advantage and holding it to the end.
Lewis & Clark returns to the court on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 7 p.m. against Warner Pacific in the Pamplin Sports Center.
