Corban Slips Past Women’s Basketball 76–67 In Homestand Finale

PORTLAND, Ore. — Lewis & Clark women's basketball closed its five-game homestand with a 76–67 loss to Corban University on Tuesday night at Pamplin Sports Center. Corban, an NAIA program receiving votes in its Top 25 poll, moved to 7–0. The River Otters fell to 2–3.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Junior Lauryn Frederickson led Lewis & Clark with 19 points and added seven rebounds, three assists and three steals in 29 minutes. Fellow junior Kaela Guidry set a career-high with 13 rebounds and added eight points.

Sophomore Kaitlen Carns scored 13 points and went 9-for-9 at the line. First-year guard Lilly Jordan contributed a collegiate-best 12 points, including three three-pointers.

Lewis & Clark mounted its strongest push in the third quarter and trimmed Corban's lead to two before the Warriors closed the night with a 19–12 fourth period. Corban shot 42.6 percent from the field, scored 38 points in the paint and held a 16–12 edge in points off turnovers. The River Otters shot 34.8 percent and recorded 34 points in the paint.

Corban opened the game with an 18–14 first quarter. Lewis & Clark tied the score twice in the opening eight minutes and briefly led 5–2 after Carns converted a three-point play at the 8:25 mark. Jersey Huerta and Tayla Yost combined for 14 of Corban's 18 points to give the Warriors a four-point lead after one.

Corban extended its margin to 37–30 at halftime after a 19–16 second quarter. Frederickson scored six points in the period, and Guidry added two inside baskets. The Warriors held the advantage in second-chance scoring and converted 11 points off turnovers in the half. Corban limited Lewis & Clark to one made three-pointer in the first 20 minutes.

Lewis & Clark produced its best stretch in the third quarter with 25 points on 9-for-15 shooting. The River Otters tied the game at 42 on a driving layup from Carns at the 7:28 mark. Corban pushed its lead back to nine near the three-minute mark before first-year Hailey Perez started a 7–0 run to close the quarter. Jordan capped the stretch with a three-pointer to pull Lewis & Clark within 57–55 with 46 seconds left. The River Otters outscored Corban 25–20 in the period.

The teams traded ties three times early in the fourth quarter. Carns tied it at 59 with free throws, Jordan hit a jumper to even it at 61, and Guidry scored inside to make it 63–63 with 7:24 remaining. Corban responded with a push that created a nine-point lead with just over two minutes left. Neither team scored again until the final 13 seconds, when Huerta made two free throws for the Warriors, and Frederickson added two of her own with 0.8 seconds left for the River Otters.

  • Frederickson's 19 points marked a season high. She is averaging 9.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.
