FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Freshman Isobel Fikso scored her first goal on the season in the 87th minute to give the Pioneers a 3-2 win over Northwest Conference opponent Pacific (Ore.) on the road.
Lewis & Clark got on the scoreboard first when sophomore Marissa Sandgren collected the ball in the box and slipped it past the keeper. Sophomore Anna Thorndike pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 26th minute when she fired a shot from outside the 18-yard box into the bottom left corner of the goal. A few minutes later Pacific's Kara Lankey was able to find the back of the net to cut the lead to 2-1.
Late in the second half Kamryn Plechot scored off a header on a corner kick from Lankey to knot the game at two. Senior Emilia Emmetti found Fikso's head with a few minutes left in regularion to score the game winning goal and send Lewis & Clark to victory.
The Pioneers outshot the Boxers 21-13 as both keepers were in action for most of the game. Kayla Davidson recorded 10 saves for Pacific while Junior Geena Fong made eight. The win brings Lewis & Clark to 6-2-1 overall and 3-1-1 in NWC play while Pacific slips to 6-2-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the Northwest Conference.
The Pioneers play their homecoming game tomorrow, Oct. 6, as they continue league competition as they match-up with George Fox. Kickoff is set for noon.
