NEWBERG, Ore. - Emily Thompson scored in the 108th minute to give Lewis & Clark a 1-0 double overtime victory over host George Fox to begin the second half of Northwest Conference action. With the win, the eighth of the season, the Pioneers broke the record for most wins in a season since the program was reinstated in 2004. The record was previously set in 2005 and then again in 2012.
After 107 minutes of scoreless action Thompson was able to slip the ball into an empty net to score the game-winning goal in sudden death double overtime to give the Pioneers a 1-0 victory. Junior Raquel McNeff picked up the assist on the play.
Lewis & Clark outshot George Fox 35 to 10 in the game including 9 to 2 in overtime. Senior Emilia Emmetti lead L&C with 10 shots while Thompson finished with nine. The Bruins were lead by Tear'sa Kriger's three shots.
Junior goalkeeper Geena Fong completed her second shutout of the season with six saves.
The win brings L&C to 8-5-1 and 5-4-1 in the NWC. George Fox goes to 3-9-1 and 1-7-1 in league.
Lewis & Clark returns home to face Pacific University on Sunday, Oct. 20, at noon.
