PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark women's soccer team fell to the Pacific Boxers 3-2 in overtime on Sunday afternoon in a Northwest Conference contest.
The Pioneers fall to 1-5-1 on the season and 0-3-1 in conference play. The Boxers improve to 5-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the NWC.
Pacific were the first to score, taking a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute on a Jordan Bodily shot from the top of the 18-yard box that skid past Elise Delgado on the wet astroturf.
Sophomore Sarah Breninger responded with a Pioneer goal just a minute later to tie the contest at 1-1. Breninger's original shot was stopped by Pacific goalkeeper Brittany Hartmann, but rebounded right back to Breninger, who was able to slip the ball into an open net.
Junior Gina Watkins gave the Pioneers their first lead of the contest in the 30th minute on a perfectly placed corner kick by Emilia Emmetti. The Emmetti corner found its way into the box and right to the head of Watkins who put it straight into the back of the net.
With just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation, the Boxers kept the game alive with a goal by Tianna Homad. Much like Breninger's goal for the Pioneers, Homad collected the ball in the box on a Pioneer block and swiftly fired it into the net.
Three minutes into overtime the Boxers ended the contest on another goal by Bodily. Homad started the play with a short corner to Bodily, who put the ball into the net from just inside the 18-yard box.
Breninger and Watkins led the Pioneers in shots with three each. Delgado collected five saves for the Pioneers.
Bodily led the Boxers in shots with four, while Homad finished with three. Hartmann picked up the complete game win after making five saves.
Lewis & Clark returns to the field on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 12 p.m. when they host Whitworth in more NWC action.
