CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Lewis & Clark women's basketball team cruised past the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 68-50, on Monday afternoon.
The Pioneers improve to 10-0 on the season, while Claremont is now 4-4 overall. The victory marks the eighth time this season that the Pioneers have defeated their opponent by double figures.
Senior Megan Spence ended the night with her second double-double of the season, leading all players with 16 points, while grabbing a team-high 11 rebounds. Spence finished the night 10-12 from the free-throw line. Juniors Sara Villanueva and Kristina Williams also finished in double figures for the Pioneers, with Villanueva knocking down 14 points and Williams scoring 10. Villanueva came up with a game-high three steals for the Pios, while Williams took away two.
Frannie Hemmelgarn led the Mudd-Scripps with 10 points and teammate Madaline Barnes knocked down nine points for Claremont.
Claremont took a two point advantage into the locker room at half. The Pioneers bounced back in the second half to outscore their opponent 41-21 in route to the 18 point victory.
Lewis & Clark returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 4 p.m. against La Sierra.
