Portland, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark women's soccer team fell to the George Fox Bruins 1-0 Saturday afternoon, battling the Bruins until the second half. The loss drops the Pioneers to 2-7-2 on the season and 1-5-1 in conference play. The Bruins improve to 2-6-3 overall and 2-4-1 in the NWC.
George Fox started the match off strong with two quick shots from Esther Harder and Melanie Gaither.
Gina Watkins responded with a shot for the Pioneers that was blocked by Bruin keeper Alyssa Montero. Lexi Bolton kept up the agressiveness for Lewis & Clark with two shots of her own.
The first half of the match ended with three shots from George Fox, one heading wide right and two saved by Pioneer keeper Geena Fong.
George Fox dominated the second half taking two shots early one wide right and the other saved by Elise Delgado.
The Bruins goal came in the second half of play with a shot from Lela Stockley, her first goal of the season. Stockley was assisted by Melanie Gaither with a pass from the left side of the field.
The Pioneers kept up in the last eight minutes of play with a three shots including a header from Watkins and a too wide shot from Natalie Levy.
Harder led George Fox with three shots while Cori Jo Young, Stockley and Gaither each took two.
Watkins led the Pioneer offense with four shots, Bolton followed behind with three and Levy took one.
The Pioneers are back in action at home, Sunday, October 9th at 12 p.m when they host the Puget Sound Loggers.
