PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark women's soccer team came from behind on Sunday afternoon to tie its Northwest Conference contest against Pacific Lutheran 1-1, but fell short in overtime to lose 2-1.
The Pioneers fall to 2-12-2 on the season and 1-10-1 in conference. The Lutes improve their record to 4-10 overall and 3-9 in NWC play.
Pacific Lutheran struck first on a penalty kick taken by Karli Hurlbut in the 50th minute. It took the Pioneers nearly 25 minutes to respond with a goal of their own. Lewis & Clark tied the contest at 1-1 in the 75th minute on a well placed cross by sophomore Sarah Breninger that found its way to Austyn Byassee.
The two sides battled through the remainder of regulation and the first overtime with neither side able to find the back of the net. Sarah Gamache sealed the victory in the Lutes favor just four minutes into the second overtime, scoring the golden goal after breaking away from the Pio defense.
Lewis & Clark returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 12 p.m. to take on Whitman.
