Portland, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark women's soccer team fell to the Linfield College Wildcats 2-0 on Wednesday evening. The loss drops the Pioneers to 2-9-2 on the season and 1-7-1 in conference play. The Wildcats improve to 9-2-2 overall and 6-1-2 in the NWC.
Linfield struck in the 14th minute and scored their first goal with a shot by Anna Sours assisted by Christine Tamamoto. When the original shot bounced off the hands of Pioneer keeper Geena Fong Sours came in with an aggressive strike. The Wildcats followed up with seven more shots in the rest of the first half.
The Pioneers started off the second half with three quick shots from Austyn Byassee, Sarah Breninger and Traci Nakamura all unsuccessful. The Wildcats kept up the pressure and were able to score in the 68th minute with a foul kick from Jenna Quiring, taking the score to 2-0.
Lewis & Clark made two extra attempts in the last seven minutes of the second half with shots from Emilia Emmetti and Natalie Stratton but were unable to get on the board.
Breninger lead the Pioneers offensively with three shots, two of which were on goal. Stratton, Emmetti, Nakamura and Byassee each had one. Pioneer goalkeeper Fong earned five saves.
The Pioneers are back in action on Fri. Oct. 14 in Forest Grove, Ore. when they take on the Pacific University Boxers at 5 p.m.
