PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark women's soccer team could not get its offense going on Saturday afternoon in a Northwest Conference match-up against the Whitworth Pirates, falling 3-0.
The loss drops the Pioneers to 1-6-2 on the season and 0-4-1 in conference play. The Pirates improve to 3-5-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the NWC.
Whitworth took an early 1-0 lead just six minutes into the contest on a Jami Hegg goal. The Pirates kept their intensity throughout the first half, constantly riding the edge of the Pioneers defensive line. Carly Schilperoort scored the Pirates second goal of the first half after another Whitworth shot rebounded off the Pioneer keeper.
Schilperoort concluded the scoring in the 68th minute with her second goal of the contest.
The Pioneers had a couple looks at goal, with Natalie Levy leading the Pioneers in shots with three, two of which were on frame. Freshman goalkeeper Geena Fong played all 90 minutes in goal for Lewis & Clark coming up with five saves.
Lewis & Clark had a 6-1 advantage in corners, while Whitworth outshot the Pioneers 13-9.
Schilperoort led the Pirates in shots with four, while goalkeeper Callie Bergstrom finished with five saves.
The Pioneers return to action on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 12 p.m. when they host Whitman.
