TACOMA, Wash. – The Lewis & Clark
women's basketball team secured the No. 4 spot in the
Northwest Conference play-offs on Saturday night, after falling to
the Puget Sound Loggers, 67-53, in the Memorial Fieldhouse. The
Pioneers will now head to George Fox on Thursday, Feb. 25 to face
the No. 1 seeded Bruins at 7 p.m.
The loss takes the Pioneers overall record to 16-9 at the end of
the regular season and 10-6 in conference play. The Loggers, who
will compete as the No. 2 seed, end the regular season 22-3 overall
and 14-2 in conference.
Sophomore Megan Spence ended the night with her fourth
double-double of the season, leading the Pios with 15 points, while
also pulling down a team-high 10 boards. Freshman Kristina Williams
finished with 10 points and two steals.
Claire Ely led all players in points, scoring 26 points for the
Loggers, while also picking up five steals. Natasha Ludwig ended
with 13 points and Kelsey McKinnis scored 12 points.
In the first half, it didn't take long for the Loggers to
build the lead into double-digits as they found themselves up by 11
points with 15:11 left to go in the first half. The Loggers
continued to hold off the Pios, pushing the lead into 20 points
with 1:26 left to go in the first half, leading 38-18 before taking
a 41-20 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, the Loggers pushed the lead to 26 points early
on before Lewis & Clark started a comeback attempt. The
Pioneers pulled the Logger lead into the teens but that would be as
close at the Pios would get as the Loggers collected the 67-53 win.
