PARKLAND, Ore. – The Lewis & Clark
women's soccer team fell to the Pacific Lutheran Lutes 2-1 on
Sunday afternoon, after coming from behind to tie the game with 20
minutes left to play. The Lutes managed to slip one in with less
than nine minutes remaining to earn the win. The Pioneers fall to
3-8-5 on the season and 2-8-2 in the Northwest Conference, while
the Lutes improve to 5-11 overall and 4-8 in conference.
PLU got things started in the 16th minute on a header by Jordan
Daniels that found its way into goal. The Pioneer offense was
unsuccessful in the first half, not managing to get off a single
shot. The team did however get things going in the second half with
the Pios outshooting the Lutes 7-6.
Katrina Weisbecker scored the Pios equalizer in the 71st minute
after collecting a pass from fellow freshman Maddie Harper. The
play began with Harper pick pocketing a Lute midfielder and then
sending a long pass for Weisbecker to run onto. The goal is
Weisbeckers second of the season and second against the Lutes.
Just when the Pioneers seemed destined for their seventh overtime
game of the season, Karin Hatch of PLU scored the match-winning
goal in the final minutes of the game.
Freshman goalkeeper Elise Delgado had a solid performance for the
Pioneers, coming up with six saves.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 11 a.m. when
they head to Pacific to another NWC contest.
