The Pioneers women's soccer team closed out the weekend with a
1-0 loss (box
score) to the Whitman Missionaries Sunday afternoon at Griswold
Stadium.
Though the ball was on the Pioneer side of the field most of the
game, the story of the game was once again the Pioneer defense.
Whitman had 13 shots in the game, with Pioneer golakeeper Kate
MacDougall (freshman, Danville, Calif.) making six saves. The
Missionaries lone goal came with the Missionaries Alisa Larson-Xu
tapping a foul kick lightly to Corina Gabbert who rared back and
fired a blistering shot at the goal from 25-yards out. The ball
sailed just below the crossbar and above the vertical jump of
MacDougall to go into the net for the only point of the game.
The Pioneers had four shots with Katie Browning (sophomore,
Idaho Falls, Idaho) giving the Pioneers their best
scoringopportunity with a shot on goal in the second half, but a
save by Missionary goalkeeper Courtney Porter kept the Pioneers off
the scoreboard.
With the victory, the Missionaries improve to 5-2-0 (4-2-0 NWC).
The Pioneers fall to 3-4-3 (2-4-0 NWC).
The Pioneers are home again next weekend, hostingPacific
Lutheran on Saturday and Puget Sound on Sunday. Both games are at
12 noon at Griswold Stadium.
