The Pioneer women's soccer team closed out the weekend falling
5-1 (box
score) to the George Fox Bruins Sunday afternoon in Newberg.
the Bruins struck quickly, scoring their first goal just three
and a half minutes into the game, with Jenny McKenzie scoring on a
breakaway. The Bruins added two more goals in the first half to go
up 3-0 at the break.
The Pioneers scored their lone goal five minutes into the second
period. Stephanie Thurin (senior, Park City, Utah) had her second
goal of the weekend, and her second of the season, for the
Pioneers, this time coming on a feed from Lindsey Whitford (senior,
Seattle, Wash.) on a long cross from the right wing.
Fox scored twice more in the final 15 minutes of the game to
earn the 5-1 victory.
With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 4-6-4 (3-6-1 NWC). George
Fox imprves to 9-5-0 (5-5-0 NWC).
The Pioneers play their final two home games of the season next
weekend at Griswold Stadium, hosting Linfield Saturday afternoon
and Willamette on Sunday. Both contests begin at 12 noon.
