The Pioneers needed just 23 seconds in overtime to earn a 1-0
(box score)
victory against the Pacific Boxers Saturday afternoon in Forest
Grove. Stevie Thurin had the game winner for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers' Liz Martin (freshman, Fremont, Calif.) opened the
scoring drive off of the opening overtime kickoff. Set up just off
the near corner of the 18-yard box, Martin lofted the ball to the
middle of the penalty area, where Stevie Thurin (senior, Park City,
Utah) was in place to net the game-winner and her first goal of the
season.
In regulation, the Boxer's Becca Roth had a clear look from just
inside the 18-yard box in the seventh minute, but L&C
goalkeeper Kate MacDougall (freshman, Danville, Calif.) parried the
ball over the crossbar. Lewis & Clark¹s Katie Browning had
a pair of opportunities in the 24th minute, dribbling around a pair
of Pacific defenders before losing a one-on-one opportunity to
Pacific goalie. Browning has a similar attempt a minute later,
hooking the ball from the top of the box right to the hands of the
goalkeeper
MacDougall finished with seven saves while collecting her
seventh shutout of the season.
With the victory, the Pioneers improve to 4-5-4, 3-5-1 in the
Northwest Conference. Lewis & Clark wraps a two-match road trip
on Sunday at George Fox, when they take on the Boxers in Newberg at
12 noon.
