The Pioneer women's soccer team tied its fourth game of the
season, knotting the Pacific Lutheran Lutes 1-1 (box score) in double
overtime Saturday at Griswold Stadium. Natalie Stratton had the
lone goal for the Pioneers.
The Pacific Lutheran Lutes got on the scoreboard 35 minutes into
the game. Laura Bressler took a shot on goal. Pioneer goal keeper
Kate MacDougall (freshman, Danville, Calif.) originally wrapped up
the scoring attempt, but she couldn't quite hold onto the ball,
giving Bressler another shot. Bressler scored to give her team the
1-0 lead.
The Pioneers squared the game in the second half on a strong
kick from 15-yards out by Natalie Stratton (freshman, Laguna Hills,
Calif.), her third goal of the season. Aly Robinson (sophomore,
Cumberland, Maine) and Brittany Larson (senior, Boulder, Colo.) had
the assists on the goal.
The strong play of both defenses left the game tied 1-1 at the
end of regulation, the seventh time this season the Pioneers found
the game tied after 90 minutes of play. The Pioneers had the only
shot in the first overtime period, a shot by Natalie Stratton that
pinged off the crossbar.
In the second OT, the Lutes had three shots to the Pioneers one,
with Pioneer goalkeeper Kate MacDougall and the Lutes Kamryn Morgan
each logging one save in the second OT to wrap up the 1-1 tie.
The Lutes are 1-6-3 for the season and still remain winless in
Conference play with a 0-5-2 NWC mark. The Pioneers are 3-4-4 and
2-4-1 in the Northwest Conference.
The Pioneers wrap up their weekend Sunday afternoon at Griswold
Stadium when they host the #4 Puget Sound Loggers. The game begins
at 12 noon.
