The Pioneer women's basketball team earned a decisive 70-55 (box score) road
victory over the Whitworth Pirates Friday night in Spokane. Kim
Kittell had her first career double-double with 22 points and 11
rebounds.
Kim Kittell (sophomore, Tillamook, Ore.) had four three-pointers
over the first twelve minutes of the game to spark L&C (6-6
overall, 2-1 NWC) to a quick 23-5 lead. The Pioneers would hold
that 18 point lead into half time after holding the host Pirates to
21% shooting in the first half (5-24).
Whitworth managed to close within 58-50 on a three-pointer by Alida
Bower with 4:41 to play, but Kittell answered with a three-pointer
of her own to spark Lewis & Clark back to a double-digit lead.
The Pioneers, who never trailed in the game, earned their first
victory at Whitworth in over a decade.
Kittell finished 8 of 10 from the floor and 5 of 6 from
three-point range while adding team highs of 11 rebounds, four
assists and three steals for L&C. Allison Farr (senior,
Lakeport, Calif.) scored 17 points and Crystal Castle
(senior, Rocklin, Calif.) chipped in 10 points and eight boards.
With the victory, the Pioneers improve to 6-6 (2-1 NWC).
Whitworth earns their first NWC loss of the season, falling to 2-1,
7-4 overall.
The Pioneers close out the weekend with a 4pm game at Whitman
Saturday afternoon in Walla Walla. Live play-by-play of the game
