The Pioneer Women's Soccer Team dropped the second game of their
home conference series versus the Pacific Lutheran Lutes today with
a score of 2-1 (boxscore).
In typical Portland cloudy and cool weather, the Lutes and
the Pioneers fought a hard and physical battle out on the turf. It
seemed as if the Pioneers were going to dominate the game early on,
especially when Lisa Housman (senior, Beverly Hills, Calif.) took a
shot less than a minute into the game that hit the left post and
was inches away from being a goal. But it was the Lutes who jumped
on top when Monica Beard broke away from goalie Nora Germano
(senior, Los Altos, Calif.) and scoring a goal in the wide open net
near the eleven-minute mark of the first half. Fifteen minutes
later Brittney Bronson added to the Lutes score with a shot that
deflected off of Germano's hands and into the back of the
net.
Stephanie Thurin (junior, Park City, Utah) scored the lone goal
for the Pioneers after winning a 1-1 against the Lute's goalie
Amanda Tschauner with a shot to the back left corner of the
net.
The match was a largely defensive one as both teams were limited
to just seven shots. Germano had three saves on the day.
With the loss the Pioneers fall to 0-3-1 (0-2 NWC). They next
take on the Pacific Boxers at home on September 20th. The match
begins at 7pm.
