The Pioneer women's soccer team fell 5-1 (box score) to the
Whitworth Pirates in a Friday afternoon match in Spokane. The
Pioneers' lone score came off a Whitworth defender.
Th Pirates led 1-0 going into the half after the Pirates Lindsay
Oakes intercepted a clear attempt by the Pioneers to find net less
than nine minutes into the game. The close contest got blown wide
open by the Pirates in the second half when they added four more
goals. The Pioneers' only score came on a Whitworth "own
goal" with fifteen minutes remaining in the game.
Lisa Housman (senior, Beverly Hills, Calif.) took the only shots
for the Pioneers, taking four shots, two on goal. Karyne Sander
(senior, Grants Pass, Ore.) saw her first action of the season,
taking over in net after the Pioneers were down 4-1. She had no
saves and gave up a goal in just over 13 minutes of play.
The Pioneers have Saturday off, finishing off the weekend series
Sunday afternoon in Walla Walla when they take on Whitman. The game
begins at 12 noon.
