The Pioneer soccer team was shutout by the Willamette Bearcats
3-0 Tuesday night at Griswold Stadium.
Willamette set the tone of the game almost immediately when
Bearcat forward Lauren Miller had a breakaway just two minutes into
the game. She faked out Pioneer goalkeeper Nora Germano (senior,
Los Altos, Calif) and had a clear shot at the goal, putting
Willamette up 1-0 at the 2:12 mark. Fifteen minutes later, Miller
had another breakaway. She booted the ball towards the goal from
25-yards out. The ball deflected off Germano into the net for her
second unassisted goal. Miller completed the hat trick at the 83:25
point of the game when she had another breakaway and once again
managed to elude Germano, who was playing well out of the net, and
punched the ball into the open net.
With the victory, the Bearcats improve to 5-8-2, 4-7-2
NWC. The Pioneers fall to 2-11-2, 2-10-1 NWC.
The Pioneers head to Newberg Saturday for an afternoon match
against the George Fox Bruins.
