The Pioneer soccer team defeated the Pacific Boxers 1-0 (boxscore) in Forest Grove Saturday afternoon. Lisa
Housman provided the offense for the Pioneers.
Lewis & Clark's Lisa Housman (senior, Beverly Hills,
Calif.) proved to be the thorn in Pacific's side once again as
the senior scored the match¹s only goal as the Boxers fell to
the Pioneers 1-0 in Northwest Conference women¹s soccer action
at Lincoln Park Stadium.
Housman, who scored a hat trick against Pacific in the teams' first
meeting on Sept. 20, broke it open against the Boxers in the 13th
minute, sending a free kick from the top of the 18-yard box to the
right corner of the net. Of Housman's six goals on the season, four
have come against the Boxers.
Pacific (4-10-1, 2-9-0 NWC) saw their current losing streak extend
to five matches, while Lewis & Clark (2-10-2, 2-9-1 NWC) swept
the season series and put and end to an eight-match winless
streak.
The Boxers, however, had a wealth of scoring opportunities as each
team put up 13 shot attempts. The Pioneers put more shots on
frame, owning an 8-6 edge in shots on goal.
Lauren Kanda had Pacific's first quality scoring chance in the 32nd
minute when she was left wide open on the right side of the 18-yard
box, but her angled attempt sailed just past the far post. Becca
Roth nearly put in the tying goal in the 41st minute, putting a
ball to the near post that was cleared over the goal by Lewis &
Clark goalkeeper Nora Germano (senior, Los Altos, Calif.).
Jenny Novak put together Pacific's best second half chance in the
79th minute, taking a pass from the far side of the field for a
shot from just six yards out. The slow roller, however,
landed right in Germano's hands for one of her six saves on the
afternoon.
The Pioneers are back home again Tuesday night, hosting the
Willamette Bearcats at 7pm at Griswold Stadium.
