The Pioneer soccer team played a double overtime game Wednesday
night at Griswold Stadium with the game against the Linfield
Wildcats ending in a 1-1 tie (boxscore). Lisa Housman
scored the Pioneer goal.
In the first period, Linfield got on the scoreboard first when
Rennkia Doty took advantage of a Lewis & Clark foul called just
outside the goal box to sail a kick over the head of Pioneer
goalkeeper Nora Germano (senior, Los Altos, Calif.) into the net to
put the Wildcats up 1-0. Five minutes later, with 2:30 remaining in
the first half, the Pioneers' Sarah-Ann Kieffer (senior,
Jacksonville, Ore.) stole the ball from a Linfield defender ten
yards in front of the goal. She slipped a quick pass to striker
Lisa Housman (senior, Beverly Hills, Calif) who had positioned
herself on the right side of the goal. Housman kicked it in for her
team leading fifth goal of the season.
In the scoreless second half, the Pioneers outshot the Wildcats
6-1, with Wildcat goalkeeper Kelsey Hasselblad making five saves in
the second period. She also made two saves in overtime, one in each
period. The Wildcats did not make a shot in the extra twenty
minutes of play.
With the tie, Linfield's record becomes 5-7-2, 4-6-1 in the NWC.
The second tie of the season for the Pioneers gives them a 1-10-2
overeall mark and a 1-9-1 record in Conference.
The Pioneers play on the road Saturday, taking on the Pacific
Boxers in Forest Grove. That game begins at 12 noon.
