The Pioneers fell 3-1 (boxscore) to the #4
Puget Sound Loggers Sunday afternoon in Tacoma. Sophie Trick scored
the goal for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers managed to keep the potent Logger offense off the
scoreboard in the first half, with the score knotted 0-0 at the
break. It took just a minute and a half in the second period for
the Loggers to break the tie. UPS's Katie Gillette took the rebound
off a save by Nora Germano (senior, Los Altos, Calif) and kicked it
into the net. The Loggers increased their lead to 2-0 when the
NWC's leading scorer, Janece Levien, headed in a goal off a corner
kick.
The Pioneers cut the lead in half with eight minutes
remaining when Sophie Trick (freshman, Arlington, Va.)
took a pass from Katie Burnett (senior, Los Angeles, Calif.) and
scored. The Loggers added an insurance goal with two minutes
remaining to make it a 3-1 game, a score that held. Germano
made seven saves on the day, with the L&C defense earning a
team save as well. The Pioneers had one other shot on goal in
addition to the shot by Trick.
The Pioneers play the first athletics event of homecoming week
this Wednesday night when they host the Linfield Wildcats at 7pm at
Griswold Stadium.
