PORTLAND, Ore.—Sophomores
Evan Markelz and
Emil Miller both ran top-25 times in program history on Saturday, to lead Lewis & Clark College men's track & field at the Portland Twilight Meet.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Markelz and Miller both posted top-25 marks in distance events and first year
Kris Adams added a pair of top-five finishes in sprinting events.
Markelz led six Lewis & Clark runners in the 5K. He finished 11
th out of nearly 50 competitors in the event. The sophomore crossed the line in 14:42.55 to beat his PR in the event by nearly six seconds.
Sophomore
Quinn Higgins finished second on the team in the 5K. He posted a time of 14:58.77 to place 22
ndoverall. Sophomore
Jordan Wu ended the race in 16:05.35 to take 43
rd place. Sophomore Jordan Blockhus (16:15.85) and junior
Theron Plumb (16:19.86 – season-best) finished back-to-back in 46
th and 47
th places. Junior
Rigo Castellanos came across in 17:04.86 to finish 49
th overall.
Miller finished 10th overall in the 3,000M Steeplechase. He registered a career-best mark in the event with a time of 9:44.51.
Junior
Joseph Naylor led Lewis & Clark in the 1,500M. He placed 52
nd in the event with a time of 4:27.62.
Adams led Lewis & Clark in a pair of events.
In the 100M, he ran a PR time of 11.61 to finish fourth overall. Junior
Jon Fritz crossed the line in fifth place with a time of 11.71. Junior
Zaren Crockett placed seventh overall with a mark of 12.07.
Adams also led the team in the 200M. He came across in 23.33 to finish second overall. Fritz ran a PR time of 23.41 to finish third overall.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Markelz's time in the 5,000M moved him up to sixth in program history in the event.
- Miller now sits 22nd overall in program history in the 3,000M Steeplechase.
- Markelz moved up to 129th in NCAA DIII in the 5,000M with his PR time.
