Kreps Earns Singles Wins In NWC Opener At Pacific

Hayley Kreps earned her team-leading seventh singles win of the year

Box Score FOREST GROVE, Ore.—Lewis & Clark College women's tennis senior Hayley Kreps earned a three-set victory at fifth singles, but the Pioneers fell 6-1 to host Pacific University in their 2025 Northwest Conference opener.Ā

HOW IT HAPPENED

Two Pioneers made their collegiate conference debuts and seven players appeared in their first conference match of the season on Sunday morning.Ā

Kreps denied Pacific a perfect 14-0 weekend with a back-and-forth win at fifth singles. The junior dropped the first set 7-5 to Valentina Casab-Klescova. She came back to win the second set 6-2 and won the super tiebreaker 10-3 in the third set.Ā

Pacific opened the match by winning all three doubles matches.Ā

Mia Yamaguchi and Tiara Yeung captured a 6-0 win at third doubles over senior Kacie Lau and Kreps. Cassidy Binder and Stella Nishimura combined for a 6-1 win over junior Susanna Anand and sophomore Maya Curry.Ā

Number two doubles proved to be the closest match. Sophomore Charlotte Makoni and first year Taylor Stadjuhar fell 6-3 to Sofia Mazzola and Chloe Takahashi.Ā

Binder made it 2-0 in favor of the Boxers when she defeated Anand 6-3, 6-1 at first doubles in a rematch of the Fall ITA Championship Match.Ā

Takahashi added a 6-3, 6-3 win over Makoni at third singles to make it 3-0.Ā

The hosts clinched the match win with a back-and-forth, three-setter at second singles. Nishimura took the first set 6-2, but Curry roared back with a 7-5 win to push the match to three sets. Nishimura took the win 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 to make it 4-0 Boxers.Ā

Sofia Mazzola defeated Stadjuhar 6-2, 6-0 at fourth singles.

In the final match of the day, Yamaguchi defeated senior Lauren Smith-Euben 6-2, 6-3 at sixth singles.Ā

  • Curry and Stadjuhar each made their collegiate NWC debuts on Sunday.Ā 
  • Smith-Euben played in her first NWC match since March 11, 2023.Ā 
  • Kreps improved to a team-best 7-3 in singles action and 4-1 in dual matches. Her seven singles wins in a season are tied for her career-high (7 in 2022 and 2024).Ā
