HOW IT HAPPENED

A kill by junior Izzy Willis to pull the Pioneers within a point of Willamette University at 16-15 in the first set erased an early 5-0 Bearcats advantage. What could have been a runaway set to open the match was made competitive by the distribution of the ball by senior setter Ashley Kane. Kane had nine of her 25 assists, and four Lewis & Clark hitters had multiple kills in the opening set.

Willamette attempted to go on a big run again to start the second set. The Pioneers had a different plan; back-to-back service aces by junior Katie Shimaura tied it early at three all. The teams had seven ties and six lead changes in the second set. Sophomore Debi Chun had five of her seven kills in the set for the Pios.

Lewis & Clark came out of the break hot and held leads in the second set of 4-1 and 11-4. The Bearcats fought back and outscored the Pioneers 21-6 for the remainder of the match. Sophomore Annika Traxler had four of her seven kills in the final set.
