Cross hits walkoff to punctuate five-run seventh

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Sydney Cross hit a walk-off home run to cap off a five-run seventh inning as the Lewis & Clark Pioneers beat the George Fox Bruins, 7-6, in Saturday's finale at Huston Sports Complex.

After falling 12-2 in the opener, the Pios trailed 6-2 entering the bottom of the seventh in game two. Braylin Jenson brought in a run on a groundout, Mari Alvarez doubled to score another before Olivia Brackin singled for a third tally. Cross, facing newly-entered pitcher Emma Eastman, sent out the 1-1 pitch to left centerfield to win the game.

Key Moments | Game 2

Trailing 6-2, Kai Pinera landed a pinch-hit single to start the Pios half of the seventh. Sierra Gundersen reached on an error, and the pair moved to second and third on Alyssa Hoeke's sacrifice bunt to set the stage for RBI by Jenson, Alvarez and Brackin.

Cross' homer is her fourth of the season and places her among the leaders in the Northwest Conference. It is also the most she's hit in a single season to date, but in only eight games.

Prior to the seventh, the only runs by the Pios came from a dropped third strike that scored Jenson during Brackin's at bat. Brackin hit a solo home run in the sixth as well.

Alyssa Abe pitched five innings of relief and earned the win with seven strikeouts. Alvarez has two doubles in the game.

Key Moments | Game 1

The Bruins scored eight of their 12 runs in the middle innings in the opener. Claire Fountain went 3 for 4 with four RBI and two others had multiple hits for George Fox.

Alyssa Hoeke went 3 for 3, but the Pioneers stranded eight runners in the game. A wild pitch in the third and Samantha Gildersleeve's RBI double in the fifth scored the runs for the Pios.

Looking Ahead

The teams resume their four-game series on Sunday at 11 a.m.
