Lewis & Clark ends season with win

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Debi Chun had 20 kills and hit .327 as the Lewis & Clark Pioneers won their final match of the season, 21-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-22, over the Whitman Blues on Saturday.

Michelle McGinn had 45 assists, and along with Chun's 20 kills, both were the most by any Pioneers student-athlete this year. Chun was joined by Kelsey Parker (11) and Izzy Willis (11) with double-digit kill totals. Parker also had six service aces, and Kate Kimbro had six solo blocks, each matching the Pios season high by one player in a match. Ka'anelaokapu'uwai Pakaki-Pias had 19 digs, and Katie Shimaura added 18 more.

Lewis & Clark concludes the year with a 7-12 overall record and a 6-10 mark in Northwest Conference matches.

Key Moments

There were 13 combined ties and lead changes in the first set. 

During the second, the Pioneers pulled away late, scoring eight of the final 11 points. The run was fueled by numerous Whitman errors. Chun landed a kill and then served four consecutive times as the Pios built a 12-5 lead. Chun and Willis had six kills apiece in the set.

"Hard to put it all into words," interim head coach Kaiao Nahale-a said. "What a great team effort. I wish we could keep going. This team is playing great volleyball to end the year. What a great argument for a conference tournament."

Whitman (6-19, 4-12 NWC) took a 15-10 lead in the fourth set. Trailing by four, Chun had a kill, and Parker served the Pios to seven straight points including a match-sealing ace. Chun had two more kills during Parker's service.
