Pioneers defeat Portland Bible

Box Score

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers hosted the Portland Bible Wildcats Tuesday night at Pamplin Sports Center, winning 94-60. The Pioneers had a significant advantage over the Wildcats in roster size and were able to effectively frustrate Portland Bible's ball handlers with full-court presses and traps. The strategy resulted in the most turnovers the Pioneers have forced so far this season. Portland Bible finished the game with 26 turnovers.

Brenden Patrick and Jalen Lowery led the scoring for Lewis & Clark. Patrick hit 20 points while Lowery put up 17. Jack Henderson shot 55.6 percent from the three-point line, hitting 5-9 shots for 15 points. Solomon Davis and Lowery combined for 12 rebounds.

The Pioneers shot 51.4 percent in field goals and outrebounded the Wildcats 39-29. The bench contributed 33 points.

Key Moments

The Pioneers' dedication to fatiguing the other team expanded into their offensive strategy. They pushed the pace and swung the ball around the perimeter to keep the defense scrambling to cover and to create opportunities for threes. This gave the Pioneers a significant advantage through the end of the first half when Henderson hit three back-to-back shots from the three-point line to give the Pioneers a 29-point advantage with three minutes left in the half.

The Pioneers also saw some more significant playing time for their bench when an all-bench unit subbed in with eight minutes left in the game. Elliyas Delaire made his debut appearance scoring a quick four points on one three-pointer and 1-2 free-throws made.

Deeper Look

  • The Wildcats' Tommy Pham scored 35 points on only 9 made shots (9-17 FG, 8-14 3PT) and went 9-9 from the free-throw line
  • Both teams shot close percentages on three-pointers, shooting 48 percent (Bible) and 49 percent (Pioneers)
  • The Pioneers made 51 percent of their field goals while Portland Bible made just 38 percent
  • Ryan Cibull, Nik Berry, Jayden Simpson, and Sebastian DePrez all contributed six points
  • Davis added two blocks against the Wildcats and leads the team with three on the season

Looking Ahead

The Pioneers will play in a weekend tournament, facing off against NW Indian College at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and Warner Pacific at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
