Men’s Basketball Holds Off Pacific for 70-65 NWC Road Win

Justin White posted second straight double-double, Kody Uyesugi hit four 3-pointers as River Otters moved to 3-1 in league play.

FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Lewis & Clark College men's basketball improved to 3-1 in Northwest Conference play for the first time since the 2013-14 season with a 70-65 victory over Pacific University on Saturday evening at Stoller Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Senior Justin White led the River Otters with 18 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and two steals, recording his fourth double-double of the season.
 
Senior Kody Uyesugi finished with 16 points, connecting on 4-of-7 attempts from 3-point range. He converted 4-of-5 free throws and added two assists.
 
A trio of River Otters scored eight points apiece, senior Andre Treadwell, junior Yigit Arcan and sophomore Marcus Bast. Treadwell added seven rebounds and two steals. Arcan finished with three steals, three rebounds and an assist. Bast recorded a game-high six assists and pulled down five rebounds.
 
Pacific opened the game with a 5-0 run in the first 75 seconds. Treadwell answered with a three-point play at the 18:43 mark to cut the deficit to 5-3. The Boxers extended their lead to 11-5 at 17:01 before Bast knocked down a 3-pointer at 16:47. Senior Taien Jackson and White followed with layups within 20 seconds of each other to pull Lewis & Clark within one, 13-12, at 14:36. Junior Joe Brown tied the game at 15-all with a 3-pointer at 12:55 off an assist from Arcan.
 
The game remained tight throughout the first half, with seven ties and seven lead changes. Uyesugi and Treadwell hit back-to-back-to-back 3-pointers to tie the score at 32-32. Arcan converted two free throws in the final 34 seconds to give Lewis & Clark a 39-34 advantage at halftime.
 
Lewis & Clark opened the second half on a 10-7 run, as White and Uyesugi hit consecutive 3-pointers to push the lead to 49-41 at the 16:23 mark.
 
The River Otters extended their advantage to 13 points when White converted a layup at 10:22 to make the score 65-52. Pacific responded with a 13-1 run over the next nine minutes, pulling within one, 66-65, with 1:21 remaining. Uyesugi and White each knocked down two free throws in the final 30 seconds to seal the road win.
 
BY THE NUMBERS 
  • Lewis & Clark last opened NWC play at 3-1 during the 2013-14 season when they won three straight after dropping the opener to Puget Sound.
  • White scored 16 of his 18 points and grabbed eight of his 11 rebounds in the second half.
  • The River Otters led for the entire second half after seven ties and seven lead changes in the opening 20 minutes.
  • Lewis & Clark scored 26 fast-break points while holding Pacific to 16.

Lewis & Clark returns home to host Whitman College on Friday evening in Northwest Conference action. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Pamplin Sports Center in Portland.
