Abe hits career-first homer in loss to Bruins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

NEWBERG, Ore. -- Alyssa Abe's home run in the top of the fifth brought the Pioneers to within one run of the George Fox, but a late rally in the bottom of the sixth clinched the win for the Bruins at Morse Athletic Field on Sunday afternoon. The Pios dropped game four of their weekend series 7-2 after they were unable to answer the Bruins in the seventh.

Kai Pinera was the only other player besides Abe to score, reaching home on an error by Kamryn Potter. Pinera was also the only player to steal a base between both teams.

Abe started on the mound for the Pios, earning her third loss of the season. She threw two strikeouts while allowing seven runs and eight hits.

Key Moments

The Pioneers were the first to put runs on the board when Pinera singled to center field and then stole second to put herself in scoring position. Braylin Jenson struck out swinging for the Pios' second out but Pinera made it home on an error before Frankie Warden grounded out to end the inning.

The Bruins went down in three to leave the run unanswered in the first but found some offensive momentum in the second when they brought in three.

The game went scoreless until the top of the fifth when Abe launched one out to left-centerfield with two outs and no one on.

Game 1

The Lewis & Clark Pioneers started Sunday play with a 7-6 loss to the George Fox Bruins at Morse Athletic Field. In game three of the four-game series, the Bruins established an early lead off a five-run rally in the second. The Pioneers responded with a late-surge three runs in the fifth, but couldn't bring anyone else home before closing out the seventh inning.

Lisa Kumasaka and Braylin Jenson combined for four of the Pios 10 hits while Lindsey Flegel led the team with two runs. The Pios logged four RBI's while Jane Wilson and Olivia Brackin drew the lone two walks of the game.

Savannah Dickson earned the loss. She pitched one inning, allowing six runs and five hits. Wilson pitched the next five, allowing one run and three hits.

Key Moments

Lewis & Clark's five runs over two innings brought them to the one point deficit that they held through the end of the game. Braylin Jensen singled with one out and Flegel and Wilson on first and second. Wilson made it home on an error by Claire Fountain on the same play, before Kai Pinera's sacrifice fly brought in Flegel.

The Pios carried the offensive momentum into the fifth after limiting the Bruins to just one in the bottom of the fourth. Brackin started the inning by drawing a walk and scored when Warden singled on the next play. Sierra Gundersen entered the game to pinch run for Warden and was advanced to second when Lily Moffitt singled out to center field. A double from Wilson brought Gundersen home as Megan Anderson stepped up to the plate to pinch-hit for Flegel. Anderson grounded out to second but scored Moffit and advanced Wilson to third. Jenson hit a fly ball out to centerfield to end the inning.
