Cerne hits double figures for the third consecutive game in Pios defeat

Box Score

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Jessica Cerne hit the game's first three on her way to 10 points during the Lewis & Clark Pioneers 63-40 loss to the George Fox Bruins on Saturday at Pamplin Sports Center.

Lewis & Clark was outscored 8-1 over the final 3:30 of the opening quarter, and the Bruins went on to lead by 16 at halftime.

Cerne had her third straight double-digit scoring game on 4 of 11 shooting with three rebounds and a career-high three blocks. Defensively, the Pioneers held Geoge Fox's guards, Emily Spencer and Kylin Collman, to five points in the first quarter.

Peyton Romo and Coco Shafer added six points apiece for the Pios.

Key Moments

The Pioneers held a 35-29 edge in rebounds, and despite 10 more turnovers (22-12), Lewis & Clark was only outscored by seven off takeaways. Delsie Johnson followed her 19-rebound performance on Friday night at Pacific Lutheran with a team-high seven on Saturday.

George Fox shot better (43 to 29 percent) and made 11 of 21 from the free-throw line.

Trailing 47-21, Romo hit back-to-back 3-pointers late in the third quarter. A dry spell followed, however, as the Pioneers went without points for about four minutes through the early final quarter.

Hannah Martin had five first-half rebounds, while Laurel Marchant totaled three steals and five rebounds. Both shot 1 for 8 from the field.
