Lewis & Clark leaves Huston in defeat

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PORTLAND, Ore. -- A late surge wasn't enough for the Lewis & Clark Pioneers to pull out a win in game three of their series with the George Fox Bruins on Sunday at Huston Sports Complex. Lisa Kumasaka's double and Paige Salavea's single brought in two runs in the seventh inning before the Pios' rally came up short in a 7-5 defeat.

Kumasaka and Salavea finished with multi-hit games with Kumasaka totaling a team-high two RBI. The doubles were the second of the year for both.

Savannah Dickson (4-6) took the loss in the circle for the Pioneers after allowing four runs on eight hits while matching a career-high four strikeouts. Emily Drevdahl finished the game for the Pioneers.

All but two of the Pioneers starting lineup had a hit with Lewis & Clark totaling nine and George Fox finishing with ten. Three errors hindered Lewis & Clark's efforts. Allison Meyer drove in four runs in a two-homer game. Madison Sorensen improved to 13-1 this season following a nine-hit, five-run outing for George Fox.

Lewis & Clark (5-14, 4-11 NWC) picked up a 2-0 lead after a sacrifice fly by Ariel Trinidad and Kumasaka's first hit in the second inning. Sydney Cross hit a sac fly in the sixth before the Pios scored two in the seventh.

Game 4

George Fox hit four home runs and totaled six extra-base hits as the Pioneers lost in six innings, 15-2. The Pioneers lost all four against the Bruins and have now fell in their last eight games.

Ana Zimmerman hit her first career home run in the fifth inning out to left field, scoring Hannah Urbach. Zimmerman finished 2 for 3 from the plate, as did Zoe Juarez. Emily Drevdahl had a double.

Megan Anderson (1-8) started the game and allowed five runs in two innings before Savannah Dickson finished out the game and had three strikeouts over four innings.

Abbie Bergerson picked up the win in a complete game for the first-place Bruins (21-5, 12-2). Allison Meyer had two home runs.

Lewis & Clark opened the bottom of the fifth inning with Urbach's single followed by Zimmerman's home run. Juarez singled and moved to third before back-to-back walks by Frankie Warden and Ateisha Norton loaded the bases. Sydney Cross battled before flying out to center to end the inning on the sixth pitch of the at-bat.

Lewis & Clark hosts Puget Sound on Thursday before playing a two-day, four-game series at Pacific on Mar. 30-31.
