Lewis & Clark downed by CMS in season debut

Box Score

CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Freshman pitcher Megan Anderson gave up three hits in her first collegiate start and a trio of Pios tallied hits in Lewis & Clark's 2-0 loss to the Claremont Mudd-Scripps Athenas on Friday at Athena Field.

Ateisha Norton, Lisa Kumasaka and Sydney Cross picked up hits in the top five of the order for the Pioneers, who left three runners on base including Emily Drevdahl who reached twice in three at-bats. Norton finished 1 for 2 and Cross' hit was the first of her collegiate career.

Anderson allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits with two strikeouts.

"Megan pitched an outstanding game with limited offense support," said head coach Shawna Cyrus. "Both teams played well. We just gave them a little too much."

Lewis & Clark (0-1) was hindered by five errors, which helped the Athenas score their second run in the sixth. Claremont M-S scored its first run on a sacrifice fly by Kawai Scanlan in the fourth. All of the hits for Claremont M-S (1-0) came from the 2-4 hitters.

"You could see some jitters out there, which created some costly mistakes and not so great at-bats," said Cyrus. "We are ready to come out more aggressive and confident tomorrow."

Lewis & Clark plays a doubleheader at Whittier on Saturday beginning at noon.
