FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- Ateisha Norton and Ashley Bolick came across in the top of the eighth inning in a 3-1 Lewis & Clark Pioneers win over the Pacific Boxers on Saturday at Sherman/Larkins Field.
The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth inning, when Tiana Rosario hit an RBI single to allow Emily Drevdahl to cross the plate.
Lewis & Clark capitalized on three Pacific errors, two of which happened in the seventh inning.
The two errors allowed for the Pios to score the rest of their runs, after Pacific scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth.
Katelyn Duilio and Rosario tallied RBI for the Pios, while Lindsay Yearman and Duilio had stolen bases. Kaili Akimseu pitched a complete game to get the win for Lewis & Clark, allowing six hits and one run with three strikeouts.
"She really worked the counts and got us a lot of pops up in the outfield," said senior Bolick, "She was composed and able to throw the entire game."
Game 2
In game two, the scoring started in the second inning for the Pios, when Ariel Trinidad had an RBI single up the middle to score Jenai Rojo. Right afterwards, Lisa Kumasaka hit a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Rosario to score.
Trinidad and Kumasaka had two RBI apiece in the first four innings in a 6-4 win for the Pioneers in the second game on Saturday.
After Trinidad hit a single and Kumasaka put up a sacrifice fly in the second, the duo hit a double and single, respectively, in the fourth to score two more runs and give Lewis & Clark a 4-0 lead.
The defense kept out a Pacific score until the fourth inning, which was responded to immediatly by two Lewis & Clark runs in the top of the fifth. Emily Drevahl scored off of a single by Frankie Warden, followed by Rosarios's second run of the day off of a fielders choice.
Pacific tried to stage a come back in the bottom of the fifth, but their three runs weren't enough to keep them in contention.
Kalin Rooney threw Lewis & Clark's second-straight complete game, striking out six.
"Kalin moves the ball so well! It's amazing," Bolick gushed, "She gave us a TON of ground balls and had a lot of strike outs. Kalin has a head for the game and knows exactly what she wants to throw."
The Pios continue play tomorrow at Pacific at 11 a.m.
