Pinder, Dal Pra close out careers against George Fox

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The look of the softball field at Huston Sports Complex was different all season with the addition of a black and orange fence wrap sporting "Lewis & Clark Pioneer Softball." On Saturday's Senior Day, there was a set of new additions to the fence panorama.

Blown-up photos of Jill Pinder, Hannah Dal Pra and Haley Robinson, the three Pios seniors, were added before Lewis & Clark's match-up against George Fox. The seniors were recognized prior to the games, which the Pios lost 3-2 and 9-5, eliminating Lewis & Clark from Northwest Conference postseason contention. Entering the weekend, the Pioneers had had their best season under head coach Shawna Cyrus, needing a sweep of George Fox for a chance at the four-team NWC tournament.

Pinder started the first game and threw two innings, allowing three hits with one run, a walk and two strikeouts. Kalin Rooney pitched the next three, allowing two more runs and taking the loss. Kady Bruce threw the final two innings without allowing a run.

Dal Pra was 0 for 5 in the doubleheader, reaching base twice in the second game on two walks, scoring a run. She had a stolen base and was caught stealing.

Robinson served as a student assistant to the team after playing three seasons as an outfielder.

On Sunday, the season-ending doubleheader was played at George Fox's Morse Athletic Center. Lewis & Clark built a 7-4 lead after the top of the fifth inning before George Fox scored six in the bottom half of the inning, going on to a 10-7 win. The Bruins closed out the series sweep with a 6-1 victory in the finale.

Zoe Juarez reached on a fielder's choice and Stephanie Garcia scored on a throwing error to start the Pios' scoring in the fifth. Emily Drevdahl hit an RBI double before Tiana Rosario hit in Drevdahl with a single through the right side. Dal Pra, who was at second base, later scored on a wild pitch.

Rooney took the loss in relief of starter Kaili-Ann Akimseu, who threw 4 1/3 innings with six runs, four hits, a walk and four strikeouts.

Lewis & Clark wraps up the season with a 17-23 record and an 11-17 NWC mark. The Pios enjoyed a five-game winning streak, and wins in eight of nine games, during the year.
