TACOMA, Wash. -- Trailing by one with just under five minutes remaining in the game, Lewis & Clark junior guard Markel Leonard made a layup to give the Pioneers a 65-64 lead over Puget Sound on Saturday night. Lewis & Clark kept the Loggers scoreless for the next four minutes-plus to complete a 76-69 victory at Memorial Fieldhouse.

The victory is the first for the Pioneers in the Northwest Conference this season, improving Lewis & Clark to 5-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

The teams flip-flopped shooting percentages in the second half. After the Pios hit 37 percent of their shots in the first half, Lewis & Clark went 55 percent in the second half, while Puget Sound made 56 and 35 percent in each half, respectively.

For the game, both teams shot nearly identically at or near 44 percent.

Lewis & Clark junior Cannen Roberson wasn't affected by the broad swing in shooting, making 5 of 8 shots in each half to finish with a game-high 29 points, a new season-high. Jason Luhnow made 6 of 7 shots, all 3-pointers, to score 23 points. The two also combined for 16 of Lewis & Clark's 43 rebounds. The Pios had a 43-24 advantage in rebounding.

Puget Sound was unable to capitalize on Lewis & Clark's second-most turnovers the season. Off 19 Pioneers turnovers, the Loggers scored nine points, while Lewis & Clark scored eight points off 12 takeaways.

The Loggers led the vast majority of the game, including for a stretch from 4:12 left in the first half until 6:52 remaining in regulation, other than one tie at 49-49.

Cory Coombe scored 12 points to make three Pioneers in double figures.

Kohl Meyer and Carlos Mancasola led Puget Sound with 15 points apiece.

Lewis & Clark is halfway through a four game road trip, playing next on Tuesday at Linfield at 8 p.m.
