Men’s Basketball Closes Trip with 99–90 Win at Whittier

Treadwell posts a double-double, and Bast adds 20 points and eight assists as offense shoots 59 percent.

WHITTIER, Calif. — Lewis & Clark men's basketball closed its Southern California trip with a 99–90 win over Whittier College on Monday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Senior Andre Treadwell led Lewis & Clark with a game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Sophomore Marcus Bast followed with 20 points on 9-for-15 shooting and added a game-high eight assists, along with four rebounds and two steals. Treadwell also finished 9-for-15 from the field and made three three-pointers.
 
Junior Yigit Arcan contributed 12 points, four assists, two rebounds and one steal, while fellow junior Joe Brown posted 10 points, five assists, three steals and two blocks. Sophomore Donovan Beard was the fifth River Otter in double figures with a career-high 10 points and three assists.
 
Lewis & Clark opened the game with a layup from junior Taien Jackson (eight points, five assists) on a Bast assist after a Jackson steal. The teams traded leads until Treadwell hit a three-pointer at 14:45 to give Lewis & Clark the lead for good at 15–12. That basket began the first extended run, which grew to 20–14 after a three from junior Kody Uyesugi (eight points). Brown made a three at 8:43, and junior Jayven Jones scored his first points as a River Otter with another three at 7:57 for a 28–19 margin.
 
Bast, Jackson and Arcan scored inside, and junior Jammial Hicks Jr. (five points, three rebounds) connected on a three-pointer for a 43–30 advantage with 3:30 left in the half. Treadwell added a transition dunk during the stretch. Whittier trimmed the margin with late scoring, but Lewis & Clark took a 45–37 lead into halftime.
 
The River Otters pushed the lead to 59–44 when Bast knocked down a three at 16:51. A Whittier layup and three-pointer with nine minutes remaining cut the deficit to 79–71, but Lewis & Clark answered with back-to-back layups from Treadwell and Bast less than 90 seconds later. Arcan and Brown added layups in the final minute to seal the win.
 
BY THE NUMBERS 
  • All 10 of Treadwell's rebounds came on the defensive end for the fourth double-double of his career.
  • Lewis & Clark recorded 31 assists on 42 made field goals.
  • Bast tied his career highs with 20 points and eight assists.
  • The River Otters shot a season-high 59.2 percent from the field.
  • Lewis & Clark led in points in the paint (52–26) and points off turnovers (21–16).
  • Brown and Uyesugi each recorded three steals.
  • This is the sixth straight game in which at least four players have scored in double figures.
  • Junior Shemar O'Roy-Ford scored his first basket as a River Otter on a layup at 10:54 of the first half and added three rebounds.
