Softball Opens Pacific Series With Two Losses

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark softball team headed to Pacific on Friday afternoon for the first Northwest Conference double-header of the series. The Boxers won the opening contest 8-1 before stealing the second game 4-3.

GAME ONE
It took just two innings for Pacific to take a 5-0 lead, with the Boxers plating two runs in the second and three in the fourth. Lewis & Clark finally got on the board in the sixth inning with the help of a Boxer pitching mishap. With the bases loaded freshman Stephanie Garcia was hit by a pitch, allowing Maddie Lee to casually come home.

The Boxers responded in their half of the inning with a bases clearing double that plated three more runs.

Jenai Rojo and Hallie Knife picked up the only two Pioneer hits of the game.

GAME TWO
The second contest saw both teams match each other inning after inning.

The scoring began in the fourth inning with the Pioneers kicking things off with three runs on four hits. The first run came across on a double by Ateisha Norton that scored Madison Hollenbeck. Hollenbeck led off the inning with a walk. Kalin Rooney, who started on the mound, helped her cause with an RBI single through the left side. The single allowed Lindsay Yearman to score from second base. Ashley Bolick picked up an RBI of her own moments later with a single to center, scoring Rooney.

Pacific countered with three runs in the bottom half of the fourth on a string of Pioneer errors.

Despite both teams only allowing each other two hits the rest of the way, the Boxers found a way to take advantage of one of theirs, turning it into the game winning run in the sixth.

Norton and Bolick each ended the game 2-of-3 from the plate. Rooney pitched a complete game for the Pioneers, striking out four.
