SEGUIN, Texas - The Lewis & Clark volleyball team traveled to Texas to start the 2014 season, opening day one of competition against Wisconsin-Oshkosh and LeTourneau. Oshkosh earned a 3-1 (25-19, 17-25, 25-18, 25-19) victory over the Pioneers. The Pios bounced back in their second match of the day, defeating LeTourneau 3-1 (25-16, 14-25, 25-22, 27-25).

GAME ONE: vs. Wisconsin-Oshkosh
Senior Kataleya Milan led the Pioneer offense with a match-high 16 kills which included one of the Pioneers two aces of the day. Tessa Belanger was strong at the net for the Pioneers coming up with a team-high three blocks, while Isabel Valentine blocked the Titans twice.

The Pioneers put together their best offense in the opening set despite dropping it to the Titans, finishing with a .333 attacking percentage. Lewis & Clark started the first set on a 4-0 run before a Wisc.-Oshkosh timeout settled the Titans, allowing them to take over.

The second set saw the Pioneers battled back from behind with the help of several attacking errors by the Titans. Lewis & Clark was unable to hold the lead at any point in the third set and eventually went on to drop the fourth set despite keeping things close in the beginning stages.

GAME TWO: vs. LeTourneau
Milan once again led the team in kills, this time picking up 13, while Valentine earned 12. Ali Carleton was strong from the serve for Lewis & Clark earning a match-high four service aces en route to six kills. Belanger once again led the Pios in blocks with four, while Valentine and Brigitte Russo each finished the match with two.

Lewis & Clark was dominant in the opening set finishing with a .462 attacking percentage. The two sides played in close in the opening part of the first set, but the Pioneers eventually soared to a 22-10 advantage. Freshman Ellery Creighton ended the set at 25-16 with a kill that was setup by classmate Emily Drake

The second set was less kind for the Pioneers who saw a different Yellow Jacket team take the court. The Pioneers found themselves behind for a bit in the third set trailing 20-16 at one point. One of Carleton's aces tied the set at 22-22. Back-to-back blocks by Valentine, Russo and Milan put the Pioneers ahead 24-22, before a Milan kill ended the set at 25-22. The fourth and final set was back and forth the entire time with the Pioneers managing to hang on at the end.

The Pioneers return to the tournament on Saturday, Aug. 30 when they take on Fairleigh Dickinson and Texas Lutheran.
