GAME ONE
GAME TWO
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Lewis & Clark sophomore pitcher Jill Pinder picked up a complete game win on Sunday afternoon in the Pioneers second game of the day against the Occidental Tigers. The Pioneers won game two 11-4, after fighting but falling to the Tigers 6-4 in the opening game.
The Pioneers improve to 3-2 on the season, while the Tigers move to 1-5 overall.
GAME ONE
Sophomore Hannah Dal Pra started the scoring with a monster homerun in the opening inning, scoring both her and freshman Tiana Rosario. Rosario reached base right before Dal Pra came up to bat with a single to left.
Occidental did not get on the scoreboard until the third inning when they found a way to tie the game at 2-2 with some help from the Pioneers and an RBI double by Alex Battest.
The Tigers put up three more runs in the bottom of the fifth, staring off with a runner crossing the plate on a wild pitch. Battest knocked in the next two runs with a two-run homerun.
An RBI double by Mariah Montgomery brought in the Tigers final run of the game in the sixth.
Lewis & Clark responded in the top of the seventh with a two-RBI single to center with two outs by Lindsay Yearman. The single scored Hallie Knife and Kalin Rooney. Unfortunately that would be all the Pioneers would be able to score in the inning.
GAME TWO
Unlike game one, the Tigers were first to strike in game two, scoring three quick runs.
Trailing 3-0, the Pioneers bounced back to tie the game at three all in the top of the second inning with help from Oxy and a Dal Pra single. Maddie Lee was the first runner to cross the plate for the Pios, coming home on an error by the Tiger catcher. With the momentum in their favor, Dal Pra singled to left field, brining in Rosario and Kelsie Buck.
Lewis & Clark added another run in the fourth with Buck coming in to score on the Tigers second error of the inning.
The Pioneers kept the runs coming in the next inning as Lee earned her first RBI of the day on a bunt single. Lee laid her bunt down, forcing the pitcher to come up with the ball, but not before Hollenbeck scored from third. Hollenbeck led off the inning with a spot on first thanks to yet another Tiger error. Things continued to fall apart for the Tiger defense with Haley Robinson reaching on an error later in the fifth with Yearman coming in to score on the play.
Hollenbeck earned herself an RBI in the sixth, knocking in Rooney with a single to center. Rooney made her way on base with a double to center, before moving to third on a wild pitch.
The top of the seventh was huge for Lewis & Clark with four runs coming in on four hits. With Tiger pitching falling apart, Dal Pra took full advantage, brining in Robinson and Buck on a single. A single to left by Rooney scored Rosario moments later. Hollenbeck followed Rooney with a double to center that brought Dal Pra home.
The Tigers managed to score one run in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not nearly enough to stop the bleeding.
Lewis & Clark takes the field on Saturday, Feb. 15 for two games against Northwest University with the first staring at 12 p.m. in the Pios home opener.
