SALEM, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark women's basketball team defeated the Willamette Bearcats for the second time this season, this time winning 73-49 on the road in Northwest Conference action.
The win moves the Pioneers to 11-10 overall and 6-6 in the NWC. The Bearcats fall to 3-18 on the season and 1-11 in conference.
Senior Katie Anderson was the Pioneers leading scorer with 12 points, while sophomore Kaitlin Mathewson finished with 11 and Sarah Bucknovitz knocked down 10. Senior Tayler Wang ended the game with a game-high seven rebounds, while scoring eight points in the victory.
Jojo DeLong led all players with 17 points, while Katie Kalugin scored 16 for Willamette.
The first half was all Lewis & Clark as the Pioneers held the Bearcats scoreless for nearly four minutes before running up a 28-8 advantage with 5:47 on the clock. The Pioneers kept pushing the pace in the half eventually taking a dominating 42-16 lead into halftime.
The second half was more of the same with the Pios taking their largest lead of the game at the 3:42 mark on a Ayisat Afolabi jumper. The Bearcats made some free-throws down the stretch but it was not enough to overcome a strong all-around performance by Lewis & Clark.
The Pioneers return to the court on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. at Pacific.
