PORTLAND, Ore. - Senior Tayler Wang scored 20 points for the Lewis & Clark women's basketball team on Tuesday night, but it was not enough to lift the team to victory as the Pioneers fell to the Linfield Wildcats 82-71 in Northwest Conference action.
Lewis & Clark slips to 10-10 on the season and 5-6 in conference play. Linfield improves to 7-13 overall and 3-8 in conference.
The senior guard has knocked down 10+ points for the Pioneers in 18 of the teams 20 games this season. Tonight Wang was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line, while hitting 3-of-7 from three point range. Wang also collected seven rebounds on the night, while racking up four assists. Sarah Anderson scored 13 off the bench for Lewis & Clark, while Reese DeHart pulled down a team-high 11 boards off the bench.
Taylor Solomon finished the night with a game-high 21 points for Linfield, while teammate Kaely Maltman had the games only double-double, scoring 17 points and pulling down 13 rebounds.
The game opened with neither side taking a large lead, with the Pioneers trailing 11-10 at the 13:53 mark. That was the last time Lewis & Clark would trail in the first half, quickly running up a 22-14 lead over the next two minutes. A made free-throw by Wang with 4:48 left to play made it 37-20 Pioneers, earning them their largest lead of the contest. Lewis & Clark kept its foot on the gas, closing out the half leading 44-27.
Linfield came out in the second half on fire, holding the Pioneers scoreless in the first three minutes of play, while cutting the deficit to 44-34. The Wildcats kept fighting the rest of the way, eventually tying th egame at 67 all with 4:36 on the clock. A three pointer by the Wildcats moments later would hand them the lead for good.
Lewis & Clark hits the road for its next game. Taking on the Willamette Bearcats on Friday, Feb. 14 at 6 p.m.
