Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark volleyball team honored its three graduating seniors on Saturday night in the teams final match of the 2014 season. The Pioneers hosted Whitworth with the Pirates earning a 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-22) win.
The Pioneers end the season 11-14 overall and 5-11 in Northwest Conference action. The Pirates finish the year tied for first place in the NWC with a 14-2 conference standing and 21-5 overall record.
Kataleya Milan ended her career with the Pioneers with eight kills, six digs, and two blocks. After tonight Milan took her career kills record to 1,041. Brigitte Russo finished the night with five kills, six digs and a block. Vanessa Hall finished the night with a team-high 11 assists, while earning two digs.
Tessa Belanger ended the night with six kills and three blocks, while Ali Carleton finished with four kills. Alexe Navarro led the team with 30 digs, while Isabel Valentine ended the night tied with Belanger for the most Pioneer blocks with three.
Whitworth came out strong in the opening set, quickly running away with the 25-12 win. The Pioneers put up a better fight in the second set, but the Pirates were still on a mission to finish with a win for a share of the NWC title.
Lewis & Clark wasn't going down without a fight in the third set. The Pioneers looked poised to walk away with the set victory after earning a 9-7 advantage, while keeping the Pirates off balance throughout the opening half. The Pioneers continued to push, pulling ahead 18-15. Whitworth found a way to settle down, rattling off five unanswered points to capture a 20-18 lead. The Pirates never relinquished control of the lead after that, ultimately taking the set and the match.
Cassandra Mendoza led all players with 12 kills for the Pirates, while Brenna Brull had nine and Nicole Leonard eight.
