Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. - Senior Kataleya Milan cemented her place in the record books on Friday night, becoming the Lewis & Clark volleyball teams All-Time Career Leader in Kills with 1,033 with one game still remaining in her Pioneer career.
Milan entered the match with 1,027 career kills, which put her in second place behind Jana Shorb (1994-97) and Margaret Dowling (2008-11) who held the record with 1,030.
The Pioneers took on Whitman Friday night in Northwest Conference action with the Missionaries pulling out a 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-18) victory. The loss drops the Pioneers to 11-13 on the season and 5-10 in conference, while the Missionaries improve to 10-14 overall and 6-9 in the NWC.
Isabel Valentine finished the night with a match-high 13 kills for the Pioneers, while collecting three blocks. Ali Carleton chipped in seven kills for the Pioneers, while both Milan and Brigitte Russo ended the night with six. Russo led all player with a match-high four blocks.
Vanessa Hall had 18 assists on the night, while Emily Drake concluded the match with 14. Alexe Navarro led the Pioneers with 18 digs, while Milan had 16.
Megan Bafus led the Missionaries with 13 kills, while teammates Abby Seethoff, Natalia Zea and Shae Kanakaole each knocked down 10. Anna Dawson finished with a match-high 41 assists, while Hannah Linsenmayer led the Missionaries with 25 digs.
The Pioneers earned the first point of the opening set, but the Missionaries quickly took control of the scoreboard and never relinquished control.
The second set saw the Pioneers run out to a 7-5 lead paced by three Valentine kills. However, the Missionaries found a way to take the lead and once again not let it go. The final set was a tightly contested one in the opening stages with the score being tied on six different occassions. Whitman broke the final tie on an Anna Dawson kill on the way to the match victory.
The Pioneers return to the court on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. for their final match of the season when they host Whitworth. The Pioneers will honor Hall, Russo and Milan prior to the match for all their contributions of the team over the last four seasons.
